Had Not Moses Prayed

Psalm 106 contains a shocking statement.  Verse 23 says, "Therefore he said he would destroy them--had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him, to turn away his wrath from destroying them" (Psalm 106:23).  Now, this might not be that surprising if the "he" in this statement was Pharaoh or some king or an enemy.  But the "he" in this verse is God.  God said he would destroy them had not Moses stood in the gap between the wicked people and God. 

The only thing between the destruction of thousands and thousands of rebellious souls was a single faithful man. Moses.  That's amazing! 

Moses was a type of Jesus, meaning we can see something about Jesus in Moses.  Do you see it?  Even today, Jesus is standing in the gap for you, if you are a believer. (See Romans 8:34.)  

As I think about the rebellious people all around me--my neighbors, family members, and friends--I have come to realize that there may not be anybody praying for them.  Nobody is standing in the gap.  Could it be that God is calling upon me to do so?  Might God desire that I pray for them?  

Is there someone in your life who needs you to stand in the breach?  Maybe a wayward child?  An unbelieving spouse?  Co-worker?  Family member?  Neighbor?  Friend?  

How much time and effort does it really take to pray for someone every day?  Not much.  You can do it while you're waiting for the coffee to finish brewing.  Is there someone in your life that needs to pray for them right now?  After all, you might be the only person doing so.  You might be the only one in the breach.  If not you, then who?
