By Faith: "The Faith of Noah" (Hebrews 11:7)

Redeeming Life Church,

Hebrews 11 deals a great deal with faith.  What is faith?  What does it mean to live by faith? The author of Hebrews asks us to consider the faith of Noah.  Hebrews 11:7 reads, "By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household.  By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith" (ESV).  Have you considered the faith of Noah?

To understand Noah, we have to journey back to Genesis.  The account of Noah is found in Genesis 5-10.  It's an interesting read.  The world had grown so corrupt, as evidenced by violence, that God was grieved.  He determined to wash away the corruption with a great flood.  It did it to demonstrate his glory and give us a picture of a better, future salvation through a better, righteous Savior--Jesus.

We'll be looking at the life and faith of Noah this Sunday.  I'd like to invite you to think about Noah.  What must it have been like to be told the world would be wiped out?  Every person he knew would be dead.  What must it been like on the water as the bodies bumped against the sides of the ark?  How scared was he on that little ship?  What was life going to be like after they got to dry land?  There would only be a very small population of animals, plants, and his family.  What was he thinking about God?  And yet in all of this, he was faithful.  What would the result have been if he, rather than faithfully obeying, did what Adam did in the Garden of Eden?

I'm looking forward to seeing you on Sunday as we examine the faith of Noah and what that says about faith and how we might live by faith.  In the mean time, I've posted an update video below.

By Faith!
