Commands of Christ: "Pray" (Matthew 6:5-8)
Jesus gave us many steps to walk in as we follow him. We’re exploring some of those steps in our series, “The Commands of Christ.” In this sermon titled, “Pray,” Pastor Bryan opened to the command in Matthew 6:5-8. Then he examined some examples from the Bible, Church history, and some contemporary stories about prayer. His first biblical example came from the Lord’s Model Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13, which he broke down and explained how Christians should pray. Then he shared that he found 132 prayers or requests and instructions about prayer in the 27 books of the New Testament. Martin Luther served as an example from Church history. Dave Earley, Ronnie Floyd, and a faithful couple in the church who put a prayer request box up in their neighborhood helps us see some contemporary examples of a lifestyle of prayer.
“If we’re grumbling” he argued, “and complaining, it’s because we’re not praying.” Prayer moves us into the mind and heart of God. It transforms us. Pray is important. It’s a critical step we must take every day as we walk with Jesus. Listen to Pastor Bryan’s sermon, “Prayer” (Matthew 6:5-8) here:
