New City Catechism with Pastor Bryan - Q2

The second question of the New City Catechism is, “What is God?” The adult answer is long. “God is the creator and sustainer of everyone and everything. He is eternal, infinite, and unchangeable in power and perfection, goodness and glory, wisdom, justice, and truth. Nothing happens except through him and by his will.”

The kid’s answer is more direct and easy to memorize. “God is the creator of everyone and everything.”

The Bible reference is Psalm 86:8-10 and Psalm 86:15.

The question, “What is God?” or “Who is God?” is the aim of theology proper. What is God like? What is his purpose of God. How can we know God? These are significant questions and they start with “What is God?” It’s amazing that the Bible reference isn’t the majority of the Bible because the Bible is God revealing himself to us. All other study of theology must submit to theology proper because all theology starts and ends with God.
