“Mission Possible” (Acts 1:1-11)

How old is the Christian church? How did the church even start? What happened to Christ’s apostles after Christ ascended into Heaven? Who is actually qualified to share the gospel?

In his sermon “Mission Possible,” centered on Acts 1:1-11, Pastor Josiah answered these questions as he shared how God builds His church through the faithful witness of Christian believers.

As Christians, each one of us has been commissioned by Christ to share the gospel everywhere we go so that others can find salvation and true life in Christ the same way that we have. We don’t need a specific blessing or special assignment from the church in order to share the gospel, because as believers, each one of us has been commissioned by Christ to preach the gospel everywhere we go, even to the ends of the earth.

"Be The Church” (1 Timothy 6:17-21)

Is it wrong for a Christian to be rich? What does it look like to be a generous giver? What role should Christians play when it comes to defending God’s word? What does it mean to be entrusted with the gospel?

In his message “Be The Church,” based on 1 Timothy 6:17-21, Pastor Josiah shares how it is important for us to be kingdom minded rather than focused solely on the temporary things of this life, what’s here today and gone tomorrow.

He also shares how, as Christians, it is important that we guard the truth of the gospel and stand firm on the solid rock of Christ Jesus.

“A Charge to Keep” (1 Timothy 6:11-16)

What does it look like to be a man or woman of God? What roles do confessions or doxologies play in the life of a Christian? How do we fight the spiritual battles that are happening around us? How can we endure to the end?

In his sermon, “A Charge to Keep,” based on 1 Timothy 6:11-16, Pastor Josiah answers these questions and more as he unpacks some of the final instructions and exhortations from Paul to Timothy in the closing of his letter

As Christians, it is important that we not only flee from the things that are evil, but that we also pursue, or run after, the things that are good and draw us closer to God. It is important that each one of us “fights the good fight” as we grab hold of eternity and keep our eyes fixed on Christ.

“Satisfied with Christ” (1 Timothy 6:1-10)

How can we find satisfaction in life? Where does our contentment come from? Are the blessings we receive from God contingent on how godly our lives are? What does it mean to have a “Jesus-Plus” mentality?

In his sermon “Satisfied with Christ,” based on 1 Timothy 6:1-10, Pastor Josiah answers these questions and more as he shares from Paul’s letter to Timothy on how “godliness with contentment is a great gain.”

It is important that we find our contentment in Christ alone and not in the things of this earth. The same false teachings that were causing problems in the church in Ephesus are wreaking havoc in Christian churches today. As a result, it is important that we as Christians, continue to guard the gospel and defend the truth found in God’s word.

“Honoring Others Honors God” (1 Timothy 5:1-6:2)

What does honoring each other look like in the Bible? Who are the true widows? Who is the Church supposed to help?

In his sermon, “Honoring Others Honors God” (1 Timothy 5:1-6:2), Robbie Tschorn answers these questions and more as he speaks about the call for believers to honor God by honoring others.

Christians are representatives of Jesus and get the wonderful privilege and opportunity of modeling the Gospel to the world. In 1 Timothy, Paul says that this is accomplished by encouraging everyone, taking care of those in need, looking out for your local Pastor, and honoring those who are in authority over you. These are simple, yet Biblical ways to honor and please God. When a church follows these commands, along with the rest laid out in Paul’s letter, they will be the Church that God intends them to be.

“Committed to Godliness” (1 Timothy 4:1-16)

Where can we find hope today? What does it mean to train in godliness? How is false teaching a dangerous threat to the church?

In his sermon, “Committed to Godliness,” centered on 1 Timothy 4:1-16, Pastor Josiah answers these questions and others as he speaks on the importance of committing yourself to following Christ and modeling your life after him.

Deceitful words and the hypocrisy of others can often times draw us away from Christ and can even cause us to turn our backs on Him completely. However, when we commit ourselves to a proper diet and discipline of knowing God’s word, living in purity, and training in godliness, we are able to stand firm against the lies of the enemy that seek to trap us and can also be used by God to help rescue others out of the fire as well.

“House Rules” (1 Timothy 3:1-16)

What is the role of Elder in the church? What is the role of Deacon in the church? Are women allowed to serve as Deacons? How do the roles of Elder and Deacon fit within the overall leadership structure designed for the church as outlined in Scripture?

In his sermon, “House Rules,” from 1 Timothy 3:1-16, Pastor Josiah shares how God has a perfect design for the leadership structure of the church and explains how every area of service or leadership within the church must be found in either the role of Elder or Deacon as defined by Scripture.

Pastor Josiah also shared how, as Christians, it is our responsibility to live out our lives as model citizens of God’s kingdom. As followers of Christ, each one of us has been called to steward the truth of God’s word and to be a guardian of the gospel of Jesus Christ. As stewards of the truth, it is our responsibility to exemplify Christ in every aspect of our lives.

“God’s Design Is Divine” (1 Timothy 2:8-15)

What is the role of women in the church? Does our appearance and the clothing we wear matter when it comes to worshiping God? How do we decipher the difference between cultural relevance and timeless principles when it comes to studying God’s word?

In his sermon, “God’s Design is Divine,” centered on 1 Timothy 2:8-15, Pastor Josiah addresses these questions as he examines the instructions from Paul to Timothy regarding how Godly women are to function both within and outside the church

In his message, Pastor Josiah shared that when we carefully survey God’s word, we can clearly see that God has a divine design for both men and women that is honors Him and compliments one another. There are timeless principles found in creation that still apply to our lives today. When it comes to determining how we should live our lives and determine the things that God has called us to do, we must always allow God’s Word to be the voice that speaks into our world rather than letting the culture around us speak into God’s Word.

“A Gospel For All” (1 Timothy 2:1-7)

Why is it important to pray for our leaders and those in authority? What does the Bible say about the government and how we should pray for our politicians? Who is the Gospel really intended for? What is the relationship between the government and their Christians citizens?

In his message, “A Gospel For All” based on 1 Timothy 2:1-7, Pastor Josiah answers these questions and more as he shares how as followers of Christ, we are called to pray for all who are in authority because it pleases God and leads to a peaceful life. Pastor Josiah also shows us how the gospel is not intended for a small group of people, or an elite club or Righteous Christians, but that the Gospel is intended for all who would believe. God’s Word encourages us to pray for others with the hope that they, too, will one day be saved and redeemed from their sins.

We pray this message would be a blessing to you and that it inspires you to lift up others in prayer as you intercede for them and petition God for their salvation.

“Fight the Good Fight” (1 Timothy 1:12-20)

What does it mean to hold onto the faith? How do we maintain a good conscience? How can we worship God in light of the sins that we have committed against Him?

In his sermon, “Fight the Good Fight” (1 Timothy 1:12-20), Pastor Josiah explains how each one of us has committed crimes against the Kingdom of God, yet, through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, we can be forgiven of our sins and found righteous before God. Pastor Josiah also outlines the importance of maintaining a clear conscience and holding on to the faith in order to fight the spiritual battles against sin that wage war on our eternal souls. Deliberate disobedience will kill our spiritual life, but if we hold on to the faith and a good conscience, when the storms of life come our way, we will be able to remain steadfast and hold firmly to Christ Jesus.

“Stand for Truth” (1 Timothy 1:1-11)

How do we avoid false gospels? How can we guard ourselves against heresies that rise up in opposition to God’s word? What does it take to stand firm on God’s truth?

In his sermon, “Stand for Truth,” Pastor Josiah shares how it is important for us to know, live, and proclaim the gospel in order to stand firm against false doctrines and untruthful heresies that contradict God’s word.

As Christians, God has called us to do more than just read our Bibles. He has commissioned us as ambassadors of the King to be his faithful witnesses in the times and places where he has called us. Just like Paul, we have been entrusted with the gospel. As a result, it is important that we know, live, and proclaim the gospel everywhere we go.

Pastor Installation Sermons

This Sunday was a special day at Redeeming Life Church as we installed Josiah Walker as our new Lead Pastor. Today, Pastor Bryan preached his last message at our church entitled “Words To Live By” centered on Philippians 1:27-28 and then Pastor Josiah delivered his first sermon as our Lead Pastor entitled “Be Devoted” out of Acts 2:42-47.

Between these two sermons, in the middle of the service, we laid hands on Pastor Josiah, prayed over him, and installed him as our Senior Pastor.

We pray you are blessed by the faithful exposition of God’s word delivered this week by our Pastors and ask that you join us in prayer as we look forward with eager anticipation to this next season at Redeeming Life as we seek to be a people who know, live, and proclaim the word of God!

“Stay Connected!” (John 15:1-8)

What did Jesus mean when he told his disciples, “I am the vine…you are the branches”? How does being connected to Christ affect our prayer life? How can abiding in Christ change our outlook on life?

In his sermon, “Stay Connected!” (John 15:1-8), Pastor Josiah answers these questions as he shares how apart from Christ, we will never be able to accomplish anything of eternal significance.

Apart from Christ our ship is sunk. Apart from the vine, the branches (non-believers) wither and die. They are gathered up and thrown into the fire. These words from Christ serve as a reminder of the final judgement that is yet to come. For those who reject Christ, the struggles of this life, are blessings compared to what awaits them in eternity. However, for those of us who remain in Christ, and who are kept by Him, our lives are completely transformed and renewed each day. When we abide in Christ, He changes us and sanctifies us as we mature and grow in our Christian journey.

“Commissioned By The King” (Matthew 28:16-20)

What is the Great Commission? What is the cost involved in following Christ? How important is it that we obey the command from Christ to make disciples? Who has the ultimate control of our world?

In his sermon, “Commissioned by The King,” Pastor Josiah shares how every Christian, those who seek to obey Christ’s commands, has been commissioned by the King to train-up and make fellow disciples of Jesus Christ.

If you are feeling discouraged or defeated because it seems like everything you’ve tried to do in an effort to share the gospel ends up fruitless, then this sermon will serve as an encouragement for you as we are reminded from God’s word that Christ is in control. He has all authority in heaven and on earth, so we need not be afraid as we seek to see our cities redeemed by the power of the gospel.

“Do Not Get Hoodwinked” (Matthew 24:4-5)

What does Jesus mean by “don’t be deceived?” Why does Jesus want us to be alert? What do we need to look out for to avoid this deception? In Pastor Bryan Catherman’s sermon, “Do Not Get Hoodwinked” (Matthew 24:4-5), these questions and more are answered as he explains Christ’s message in Matthew 24.

Do you know Jesus? All who would not be deceived by those who are not of Christ must know Jesus; they must have a relationship with Him. Pastor Bryan calls us to this main point of knowing Christ. He also encourages us to think about what steps we’re taking to know Jesus better.

“The New Master” (Matthew 11:25-30)

How do you know God? What does it mean to make Christ your Master? What’s a yoke? What does it look like to learn from Christ? Pastor Bryan Catherman, in his sermon, “The New Master” (Matthew 11:25-30), answers these questions while explaining what it means to make Christ your Master.

Christ wants us to recognize Him as the Lord and Master of our life. In this Matthew 11 text, Jesus issues a timeless invitation to come to Him and to find rest in Him. But He doesn’t stop there. He then calls us to listen to Him by being His disciples. A right relationship with God the Father is the ultimate goal. And in order to do that we must go to Christ.

"Give God's Way" (Matthew 6:1-4)

Are we commanded to tithe? Should we give 10 percent to the Lord? Has giving changed from the Old Testament to the New Testament? What does God want us to give? Pastor Bryan answers these questions in his sermon, “Give God’s Way” (Matthew 6:1-4), as he looks at Christ’s teaching on giving in His famous sermon on the mount.

It’s not a matter of how much you give, but rather the heart behind your giving to the Lord. Realizing all that God has given us, to include the life of His Son, this should change our perspective on how and what we should give. Our abilities, our finances, and our time should be given freely without reservation to the Lord. When we give in this way we show God that we love Him with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength.

"All You Need Is Love" (Matthew 22:34-40)

What is the greatest commandment in the Bible? How can we love God? How do we love others? How do the commandments from God given in the Old Testament relate to the commands that Christ has given us in the gospels? In his sermon, All You Need Is Love (Matthew 22:34-40), Pastor Josiah answers these questions and others as he examines the command from Christ to love God and love others out of Matthew 22:34-40.

It can be hard to love others, especially those who frustrate us or belittle us because we are not like them. Through the exposition of God’s word, Pastor Josiah shares how through the sanctifying work of the holy spirit, we are able to overcome our personal barriers that prevent us from living out this primary command that Christ has given us to love God and love others.

"Pray God's Way" (Matthew 6:6-13)

In his sermon, "Pray God's Way" (Matthew 6:5-13), Pastor Bryan Catherman not only looks at Jesus' commandment to pray, but more specifically, the specifics about how and what to pray. Are Christians free to pray any way they want, or does God have preferences about prayer? What are the specific areas in which we should pray? Is the Lord's prayer a model for us, or is this something we're required to pray verbatim? Pastor Bryan seeks to answer these questions and many more from Mathew 6:5-13.

We encourage you to read Matthew 6:3-13 and listen to Pastor Bryan's sermon. How might understanding more about prayer help you in your Christian walk? In what areas could you use help in your prayer life? Do you want to have more vibrant, healthy habits of prayer? Don't we all! Matthew 6:5-13 is a great start.

“Final instructions” (Matthew 26:26-30)

What is the Lord’s Supper? What is the Passover? How does the Lord’s Supper and the Passover relate to each other?

In his sermon, Final Instructions (Matthew 26:26-30), Pastor Josiah D. Walker answers these questions and others as he unpacks the First Lord’s Supper from Matthew 26:26-30. In this section of Matthew, we see Jesus share instructions with His disciples on how He is establishing a new covenant between God and man. The covenant that Christ instituted replaces the covenant of the Old Testament that was established between God and the Israelites. Thankfully, this new covenant is not contingent on our ability to keep God’s commands but is based on God’s faithfulness to always forgive us of our sins.

Pastor Josiah also shares how when we take the communion together as a gathered body of baptized believers, it is meant to point us to the cross, remind us of Christ’s death, and show us that we are redeemed and rescued from our sins not based on our works, but on Christ’s substitutionary atonement.
